The Children’s Museum of Wilmington Hosts First Sensory Sunday of 2026on February 1st

Wilmington, NC — January 19, 2026 — The Children’s Museum of Wilmington is thrilled to host their first bi-monthly Sensory Sunday event on February 1st from 10am to 12pm.

Sensory Sunday is a bimonthly Museum event offering a sensory-friendly Museum experience for children with sensory sensitivities and their families. Each Sensory Sunday, the Museum adjusts its standard operating procedures to accommodate children with varying sensory, developmental, and physical needs.

Guests to the event can expect fewer guests, light and sound reduction, and designated calming spaces to help create a welcoming and comfortable environment. In addition to environmental adjustments, the Museum will offer free Power Packs, headphones, and sound maps that can be checked out at the front desk throughout the event.

Sensory Sunday has been hosted by the Children's Museum of Wilmington for several years and continues to grow and serve more children each year. “Sensory Sundays are about creating a museum experience where every child can feel comfortable, confident, and curious," says Jessie Goodwin, Executive Director of the Museum. "Since launching in 2022, this program has become an important way we support inclusive play for our community, and we’re excited to begin 2026 by welcoming families back for another sensory-friendly day of learning and exploration.”

The Museum will continue to host Sensory Sundays throughout the year, with the next event being scheduled for April 12, 2026.

Sensory Sunday is $5 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online ahead of the event at www.playwilmington.org/sensory-sundays. Capacity for the event will be monitored by Museum staff to ensure a comfortable environment for all guests.
