Wilmington, NC (WWAY) — The Children’s Museum of Wilmington will take part in the Worldwide Day of Play later this month.

The event is set for Sept. 26 and is part of a global initiative presented by Nickelodeon and the Association of Children’s Museums.

The Wilmington museum plans to offer pop-up programming and additional play activities throughout the day. Families can take part between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and no separate event ticket is required.

Museum Program Coordinator Anna Harris said the event is intended to highlight the role play can have in learning.

“While we celebrate play daily, we are excited to participate in a global celebration highlighting that play transcends culture, language, and borders,” Harris said. “We hope families will come play with us on Worldwide Day of Play!”

The event is part of Nickelodeon’s Our World initiative and includes participation from children’s museums across North America.

Arthur G. Affleck III, executive director of the Association of Children’s Museums, said the event also focuses on the connection between play, well-being and learning.

The Children’s Museum of Wilmington is one of more than 360 member museums in the Association of Children’s Museums network.
