We Know a Thing or Two About Birthdays
This month the museum has a birthday of its own. The Children's Museum of Wilmington opened in 1997, and on Saturday, October 10, we are celebrating 29 years in the community with extended play hours from 6pm to 8pm. Birthday-themed activities will be sprinkled throughout the museum alongside the exhibits families already love, with hands-on STEM, art, and literacy fun.
Anna Harris, the museum's Program Coordinator, put it this way: "We hope guests will come enjoy our birthday doing our favorite thing, playing together!"
After 29 years of helping Wilmington children learn through play downtown, we are ready to celebrate.

The Part Parents Care About Most
A party at the museum solves the three things that make birthdays stressful: where to put everyone, what to do with them, and who cleans it all up. Here are a few details that make a real difference on the day of:
Your guests get full-day admission, so families can stay and play long after the cake has been cut
You are welcome to bring your own food, and Deluxe parties come with tablecloths, plates, napkins, cups, silverware, and a cake knife
Staff lead the activity at the Deluxe level, which runs about 15 to 20 minutes depending on the size and ages of the group
The party room is set with three child tables, 20 child chairs, and a serving table
Every child goes home with a $1 return pass, a small thing parents remember
You don’t have to vacuum your living room afterward!

Which Package Fits Your Kid
Every family celebrates a little differently, and the three packages are built around that. A quick way to choose:
Classic suits families who want a simple home base and plan to bring their own theme, decorations, and treats
Deluxe suits anyone who would rather not shop, decorate, or lead an activity, since the theme, the activity, and the supplies come with it
Exclusive Adventure Pass suits a big guest list, or a child who does better with fewer strangers around, since the museum is private for those two hours
For a first or second birthday, the toddler wing gives little guests a space sized just for them, with the Toddler Treehouse and Animal Alley close by. For kids in the five to ten range, a staff-led activity at the Deluxe level gives the group a shared moment before everyone scatters to explore.
Booking Without the Last-Minute Scramble
A little planning goes a long way, especially if you have a specific weekend in mind. A few practical notes to make planning easier:
Book at least two weeks ahead, or closer to a month if your heart is set on a certain date
Parties are Saturday and Sunday only, so pick your weekend early
Outside food is welcome, though vendors cannot set up on site
Bring extra decorations if you like to use on their own or in addition to what the museum provides
You have 15 minutes after the end of your party for cleanup
The courtyard can be added for an extra $50 if you want outdoor space in the mix
Members save $50 on every package and get an extra month of booking lead time, which matters for popular weekends in the spring and around the holidays.
Downtown parking is close by, which helps when grandparents and out-of-town relatives are part of the guest list. Share the address, 116 Orange Street, with your invitations so everyone arrives ready to play.
Throw a Party They Will Talk About
Your kiddo gets a day of hands-on play with their favorite people, and you get to be present for it instead of stuck on clean up crew. That trade is worth a lot. Pick your package, pick your weekend, and let the museum do the heavy lifting.
