Family Farm Day brings barnyard fun to Wilmington Children’s Museum

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Families can expect a morning of furry encounters and farmyard fun as the Children’s Museum of Wilmington hosts its annual Family Farm Day on Saturday, May 16.

A longtime favorite on the museum’s event calendar, Family Farm Day transforms the museum’s outdoor courtyard into a pop-up petting zoo, complete with animals from McNally’s Farm. Guests will have the chance to meet and interact with a variety of animals, including chicks, bunnies, and goats.

Organizers say the event is designed to give children hands-on experiences with animals while fostering curiosity about farming and the natural world.

“Family Farm Day is one of our favorite annual events,” said Anna Harris, program coordinator at the museum. “It’s a chance for children to engage with unique animals, ask questions, and connect with the world of farming. We’re excited for a morning of animal encounters and farm-themed play.”

Beyond the petting zoo, the event will feature a range of farm-themed activities inside the museum. Children can create crafts like “hen-tastic” headwear, play games such as cornhole, and participate in interactive dance activities.

“Guests may visit Family Farm Day to see the animals, but they stick around when they see all of the other farm festivities we have throughout the museum,” said Sally Mabie, a museum educator and event planner. “We love the opportunity to create one-of-a-kind experiences for kiddos in our community.”

Tickets are $5 for members and $15 for non-members, with advance purchase available online.
