WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Children’s Museum of Wilmington will celebrate the reopening of its newly refreshed Neighborhood Nook exhibit with a ribbon-cutting ceremony later this week.

The event is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 24, and is open to museum guests and the public. The exhibit was renovated through a partnership with Salt Air Inc.

The Neighborhood Nook includes Charlie’s House, a renovated playhouse for young children, and the Giving Tree. According to the museum, the exhibit is designed to encourage imaginative play while helping children explore concepts of home, community and belonging.

Museum officials said the refreshed exhibit is intended to expand hands-on learning opportunities for children in southeastern North Carolina.

“We’re incredibly grateful to partner with Salt Air, a company that shares our commitment to strengthening our community and investing in local families,” Allan Lusk, the museum’s director of advancement, said in a news release. “Their support of the Neighborhood Nook helps us advance our mission of providing hands-on opportunities for children to learn, explore, and grow through play.”

The ribbon cutting is part of a day of programming at the museum that will also feature two organizations participating in its annual Feature Fridays series.

The Museum of Coastal Carolina will be at the museum from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by Coastal Horizons from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Feature Fridays highlights local organizations and gives visitors an opportunity to learn more about community resources.

The museum is also asking community members to complete a short survey as it gathers feedback about visitor experiences and future priorities. The survey is available in English and Spanish.

According to the museum, the survey is intended to help guide future planning and community engagement efforts.

The Children’s Museum of Wilmington is located at 116 Orange St. in downtown Wilmington.
