Clean the Coast with The Children’s Museum of Wilmington!

DOWNTOWN WILMINGTON, NC - This August, The Children’s Museum of Wilmington will host its annual Mission Month, a month dedicated to a cause that helps to better our community. This year’s mission is cleaning up the coast! The Museum will host fun, educational programs about coastal care and awareness and is partnering with Oceanic Restaurant at Crystal Pier and the Wilmington Sharks for a beach clean-up. Watch our interview on WWAY TV3 to learn more about Mission Month!

The following programs are offered at the Museum each Monday at 2 PM. Regular admission pricing applies with free entry for members. To learn more about Mission Month, please visit our website https://www.playwilmington.org/mission-month

August 5th – “Beach Box Exploration”

Explore the beach in a box! Dig through sand, sort contents into “natural” and “man-made” groups, and learn ways debris harms wildlife.

August 12th – “Trash Traits”

Perform experiments to examine whether or not trash can float, sink, blow around, or wash away and discuss negative effects on the ocean and wildlife.

August 19th – “Food or Foe?”

Join Sharky from the Wilmington Sharks in a sight challenging and snack-based sorting activity that simulates how food and trash can easily be mistaken by marine life!

August 26th – “How Long ‘Til It’s Gone?”

Learn about the many and surprising decomposition rates for different marine debris in an interactive timeline activity.

The community is invited to join our beach clean-up on August 24th from 8 – 10 AM at Crystal Pier on Wrightsville Beach! If you are interested in joining, please send RSVPs to jgoodwin@playwilmington.org with your name and total number of members in your group. Details will be sent via email.
