Admission Numbers Soar
Wilmington, NC – August 29, 2010– The Children’s Museum of Wilmington happily reported that they have seen a record number of visitors over the past twelve months. The popular attraction located in downtown Wilmington had 52,415 visitors within the past year, to be exact. That’s an increase of eight percent from the year before.
While some local businesses saw a drop in tourism revenue this summer, the Museum said that it experienced its busiest summer yet. Certainly not all visitors were tourist though, as the Museum also reported selling a record number of memberships to area families.
Days too hot or too rainy to spend on the beach steered families inland, with The Children’s Museum being a great indoor-play destination. However, it isn’t only the weather that keeps people coming back to the Museum. The Museum added the Toothasaurus Dental Exhibit as well as a real school bus within the past year. Of course the Ahoy Wilmington Pirate Ship, Teddy Bear Hospital and Grocery Store exhibits continue to be classic favorites of each child that visits.
Rick Lawson, Executive Director of The Children’s Museum, said that “early this fall [they] will be updating aspects of each exhibit at the Museum”, so expect to see your kids finding new things to play with on your next visit. “We are always trying to keep the Museum fresh and interesting for each guest. Updating our exhibits insures that even the children who come weekly continue to discover new things and learn through play.”
The Children’s Museum is open 9am-5pm Monday through Saturday and on Sundays from 1-5pm. You can visit their Website at www.playwilmington.org to learn more about their daily activities.
The Children’s Museum of Wilmington celebrates the joy of childhood by providing magical and playful experiences for children of all ages. The Museum serves children ages 0-11 and their adult company. Our goal is for all our visitors to learn amazing things about themselves and the world where we live, through informal, playful hands-on and child-directed experiences. In our warm and inviting environment, children and the adults who bring them find ample opportunities to explore and better understand the arts, sciences, culture and more, through engaging exhibits and programs.
